To increase among us the love of God and neighbour

The mosaic panels of the Font have a background of green waves standing for the 'water of eternal life'.
The various panels depict
A dove - When Jesus was baptised by John the Baptist we are told that the Spirit descended on him like a dove. We believe that in Baptism a Christian comes to know the presence of the Holy Spirit in their lives.
A fountain - In this panel the artist sought to depict our striving as human beings for a purer life.
Fire held by a hand -Fire is often thought of in terms of refining or purifying, as with a metal ore. Here the red and yellow colours symbolise love and truth
A hand held in blessing - The visitor will notice that the hand has been pierced. We are reminded that Christ died for our sins on the Cross. In baptism we die to sin through his death and live to righteousness through
his resurrection.
The cup and hyssop - Hyssop branches were associated with the sacrificial rites of the Old Testament. When Jesus was crucified he was offered a sponge soaked in vinegar held out to him on a branch of hyssop.
The cup symbolises the immortality of the soul
The designs on the Altar panels and Font form the basis of the patterns on the Altar kneelers designed by Elizabeth Jenkinson and worked by the ladies of the church.
St Michael’s. Church Bracewell also has a fine set of altar kneelers.
